What's a variation?
When buying toys, you probably noticed this at some point: "The product inside may differ slightly from the pictures on the packaging". This is commonly found on the packaging of toys to inform you that the manufacturer is constantly updating their products. This is how variations are born on some items. So how can you recognize a variation? Well, that is actually quite easy. When looking at something you should always ask yourself this question: "Was it a deliberate change in the overall appearance or features of the product?" If the answer is yes, it is a variation. You should also note that a variation is the successor of the first version and is always abundant, where as a production error only occurs once or several times. This all sounds a bit confusing so i'll simplfy it. Try to answer for yourself if the following are variations:. Example 1: A Baryonyx missing the yellow highlights aroud the eyes. Example 2: JPD packaging with or without an Islands of Adventure sticker. Example 3: A Lynx with his hind leg attached on backwards. Did you answer these yet? If so, which ones are variations and which are errors? What? Do you want me to give the answers? Ok, here goes. Only the second example is a true variation. Why? Well, a deliberate change was made to the packaging. Since the figs sold very well at the IOA stores, they were also shipped to regular stores and the stickers had to be removed. Examples 1and 3 are both (production) errors. The Baryonyx with the missing highlights is a mere paint application error or rather a lack thereof, while example 3 is just an assembly error. Where to buy?
|
So now that you've seen the majority of the toys,
you are probably wondering where the heck you can buy them. Well, then
i have some good and some bad news for you. The bad news is that these
toys are long gone from normal retail stores. The good news is that
you can still find these in specialist and/or comic shops and flea markets.
Of course, you can also get them from other collectors (check our trade/sale
forum) and online stores. Sites like Ebay have a great variety of products
available and if you look well enough, you can find some great deals
floating around. To start your search for JP toys on Ebay, we have prepared
a search for you. Just click here
and you'll be taken to it. Please note that, while we may be experts
when it comes to JP, others may not. So when you have finished your
initial search, try again by changing the word "Jurassic"
in Jurassic Park into one of the following: Jurrassic, Jurasic, Jurasick,
Jurasik and other combinations you can think of. Then there's also the
word "Park", which some people write down as "Parc".
Now iknow this might sound stupid, but people make mistakes and there's
no harm in profiting from them here. :D
